Stepping Stone Hospice is proud to announce the promotion of Sr Nondulo Kona to the position of In-Patient Unit (IPU) Manager, a well-deserved step forward for a nurse whose dedication to patient care has never gone unnoticed.
Sr Nondulo holds a BA in Nursing Science and a Postgraduate qualification in Education and Administration, and is a registered nurse with over 23 years of professional nursing experience under her belt.
She has also completed a Palliative Care course with the University of Cape Town (UCT), as well as training in HIV Counselling and Management, further strengthening her expertise in these specialised fields of care. Ever the lifelong learner, she has gone on to self-train as an Oncology Nursing Navigator, continuously seeking out opportunities to learn and grow so that she can offer the very best care to her patients.
Her career has taken her across the public sector, private sector, and corporate healthcare space, giving her a rich and well-rounded perspective on patient care. Along the way, she has held managerial positions in various settings, and it is this depth of experience, paired with her calm, capable leadership style, that made her the natural choice to take the helm of our In-Patient Unit.
True to her drive for growth, Sr Nondulo is currently completing her Master’s degree in Public Health, with graduation just around the corner. Her appetite for learning doesn’t stop at her own development, one of her key goals in this new role is to uplift the team around her. She’s passionate about empowering her staff through education and short courses that will sharpen their skills and grow their careers within the palliative care space, ensuring that the high standard of compassionate care Stepping Stone is known for continues to flourish.
Away from the wards, Sr Nondulo is a proud single mother to two beautiful girls and describes herself as deeply family-oriented, values that shine through in the warmth and care she brings to her patients and their families every day.
Speaking about her new role, Sr Nondulo described stepping into the position of IPU Manager as a new challenge one that she is embracing wholeheartedly, alongside her excitement for the journey ahead and her commitment to continuing to equip herself so that she can thrive as she leads the IPU team forward.
