Stepping Stone Expands Compassionate Care to the Vaal amid Handover of Wide Horizon Hospice

Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services has been entrusted with the stewardship of Wide Horizon Hospice in Vereeniging through a meaningful recent handover rooted in shared values and a mutual commitment to compassionate care.
Wide Horizon Hospice, a well-established palliative and frail care hospice serving the Vaal Triangle from its base at 13 Cassino Road, Duncanville, Vereeniging, was entrusted to Stepping Stone – the Greater Alberton area’s first-ever specialist palliative care entity and an APCC and CoHSASA accredited NPO.

This was a value-driven decision to place Wide Horizon Hospice in the hands of an organisation with a proven record of delivering dignified, expert palliative care.

Tersia Burger, Founder and CEO of Stepping Stone Hospice, said receiving this handover was both a privilege and an exciting responsibility.

“Wide Horizon Hospice was given to us in trust, and we do not take that lightly. It is a profound vote of confidence in what we stand for, and we are honoured to carry that legacy forward. Wide Horizon will have its own staff, board, its own fundraisers, and its own separate budget. It will be run as a fully independent hospice, creating much-needed jobs for the Midvaal community and surrounding areas while benefiting from the expertise and accreditation standards we have built at Stepping Stone over the years,” she said.

Burger is equally emphatic that the development signals growth, not disruption.
“I want to reassure our Alberton community, our donors, our staff, and every family we serve that this does not affect our operations at Stepping Stone in any way. We remain fully committed to the Greater Alberton area. Our team, our services, and our mission here are completely unchanged,” she said.

Stepping Stone will now lead Wide Horizon, a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor, into its next chapter, ensuring that the Vaal community continues to receive the standard of care it deserves. The community is warmly invited to be part of this new beginning.

Wide Horizon Hospice will hold its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, June 11 at 16:00, where stakeholders can receive the annual report and engage with the organisation’s work. This will be followed by the official launch of Wide Horizon Hospice under its new management on June 18 at 14:00, at 13 Cassino Road, Duncanville, Vereeniging (opposite Kopanong Provincial Hospital).
