We’ve ended the month of March on a high after generously receiving a kind donation from Freddie and Dani. To help our patients and families not walk alone, they established a fund—the Janine Fritz – YNWA Fund—in honour of Freddie’s late mom.
This fund will allow us to create memory boards, print photos, and display them in the rooms of all our patients. They were able to donate a photo paper variety pack, a multifunction printer with Wi-Fi, tag pins, and some decorative materials, allowing our angelic volunteers to help our families build memory boards.
This initiative will console many others, as it did for Freddie’s late mom, by keeping the fondness of memories close by. They built the board during his mother’s last days, collated the photos, got it all printed, and placed it in her room.
The board had such a profound impact on her state of mind. If the nurses turned her bed or made her lie on a different side, she asked them to move the board as well, so that it could always be in her sight. Freddie shared that the memory board, the happiness in those photos, and the good times were one of the last things she saw. In a way, we were all there with her in this symbolic manner.
“When Mom passed, one of the nurses who came to console us told us about this board and the impact it had—not just on them, but on Mom. They mentioned that they have many patients who either do not have family members able to create such boards, either because they lack the means or, in many cases, do not have any family left,” he said.
We are so grateful to Freddie and Dani for their kindness. They recently organized a group to help with a special project that is close to his heart.
Together, they repaired our uneven paving, committed to cementing an area on the side that lacked any paving, and fix the gutters that had been in disrepair for far too long. But that wasn’t all; they also revitalized our pond, a serene oasis that brings joy to many. Through the Janine Fritz – YNWA Fund, they also made a kind donation towards our upcoming charity golf day.
