Stepping Stone Palliative Care Services is thrilled to introduce Sr Mariona Wessels, who joined the Stepping Stone family on April 1 as their newest Community Nurse. She will working alongside Sr Nomsa Shaba.
Sr Mariona brings with her a wealth of heart, experience, and dedication that aligns beautifully with everything that the 5-star and CoHSASA accredited Hospice stands for.
With 39 years as a registered nurse, Mariona’s career has taken her across a range of disciplines – from phlebotomy and primary healthcare to home care and geriatric nursing. Most recently, she served at Alberton Tuiste vir Bejaardes, where she cared deeply for geriatric and frail patients. Before that, she worked at an old age home in Humansdorp in Jeffreys Bay. She now calls New Redruth home.
“What truly sets me apart is my purpose. I have a deep desire to walk alongside palliative patients, to honour their journey, and to ensure that every person is treated with dignity right until the very end,” she said.
Stepping Stone Hospice, Founder & CEO, Tersia Burger, said that kind of calling is rare, and that they are privileged to have it in their team.
Beyond her nursing, Mariona is a proud mother of three and grandmother of two. When she’s not caring for others, you’ll find her with a paintbrush in hand, journaling her thoughts, or breaking a sweat at the gym.
“Sr Mariona, we are honoured to walk this road alongside you. Her years of experience, combined with her genuine heart for patients, make her a tremendous gift to our team and to every family we serve,” Tersia said.
Welcome to the Stepping Stone family Sr Mariona!
