We are honoured to share that our children’s unit has welcomed its newest resident: six-month-old baby R, who arrived into the gentle care of our CEO and founder, Tersia Burger.

Baby R lives with hydrocephalus, a condition in which cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain’s ventricles, leading to increased intracranial pressure and head enlargement. Though his young life presents significant challenges, his resilience and spirit have already touched our hearts.

Our nursing team and careworkers embraced him with joy and tenderness as he joined six other courageous children in our unit, each living with life-limiting conditions. Every child who enters Stepping Stone brings their own unique story, and every single one receives the same unwavering compassion, respect, and love that forms the foundation of our mission.

The children’s unit at Stepping Stone exists to ensure that every child, regardless of their prognosis, receives comfort, specialized care, and opportunities to experience moments of joy and connection. Baby R is now woven into the fabric of our Stepping Stone family, and we are devoted to creating meaningful, tender moments for him and those who love him.
