Stepping Stone Hospice staff member wins the car!

A delighted Portia wins the car

Over the 10 years of them raising funds for organizations that help fight “cancer, one step at a time”, they never left Stepping Stone Hospice off their list of beneficiaries. In fact, over these years, The Shuffling Walking Team has donated well over R2.5 million to various cancer organizations of which Stepping Stone Hospice received close to R400 000 from them.
To celebrate their 10th year of raising funds, the team at the Shuffling Walking Team had an amazing first prize in their traditional Raffle Draw, a Toyota Urban Cruiser, donated by West Pack Lifestyle and valued at R240 000.
Amazingly none other than Portia Ntombela, personal assistant of Stepping Stone Hospice’s CEO, Tersia Burger, won this beautiful car. The live draw took place on Saturday October 23 at West Pack Lifestyle East Rand Value Mall Boksburg with Portia’s ticket number emerging as the 1st prize winner!
“I still cannot believe it,” says an excited Portia. What made this win extra special, was that Portia celebrated her 60th birthday on October 31 “and I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present!”

Portia explains that she was at first reluctant to buy a ticket as money is tight and her own “very old car” was already giving her problems and needed some desperate repairs. “I bought a ticket at the last minute because I really believe in the cause and appreciate the work the Shuffling Walking Team puts into raising funds for our charities.” A decision she now doesn’t regret as she pose for a photograph next to her spanking new wheels!

The Shuffling Walking Team traditionally hosts a fun walk through the streets of Bedfordview on the last Sunday of July. However, with the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers decided to host a Virtual Walk instead. In 2020, the Virtual Walk took place on the 26th July and this year it took place on Sunday September 12.
The entry fees, raffle monies and various other initiatives add to the final sum of funds eventually donated to the chosen beneficiaries.
