Reaching out on Mandela Day; 18 July 2019

Mandela Day always brings with it some very special moments! A visit from the Creative Academy Grade R children delivered such a moment when this group of caring little human beings not only surprised Stepping Stone Hospice with donations of items off their wish list, but also items that can be sold in their Charity Shop. To round off the visit, the children sang a beautiful song to the Stepping Stones Hospice staff and some of their patients “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine…”!

Owner of the Creative Academy Group, Jenna Axsel, explained that the hospice is very close to their hearts as they have had parents of some of the children being cared for at hospice. “It is a special place and we are honoured to be able to help.” Tersia Burger, CEO at Stepping Stone Hospice, thanked the principals of the three Creative Academy campuses, the Grade R group and the parents who assisted with the donations.

Stepping Stone Hospice used Mandela Day as an opportunity to share some of the goodwill we are blessed with on a daily basis. We handed out some blankets to the homeless and jobless who frequent the NG Church Alberton South’s soup kitchen in Raceview every Thursday.

“Such a great feeling to know that we can make a difference, however small, in areas other than our field of service,” says Sister Sheryl Newman, head of Clinical Services at Stepping Stone Hospice.

Thank you to the church who afforded us this opportunity.
