Michelle Varner, member at Alberton Bowls Club and one of the organizers of the tournament, is delighted with the successes achieved this year. “We had 18 teams from all over the district competing. Last year was an “all ladies” competition, but this year we included the men and that definitely contributed to the increase in funds raised,” Michelle explains.
Various sponsors such as Mosaic Funeral Group and the Westpack Express Store in New Market Mall also came on board. The beautiful goodie bags and prizes the players received, made it all worthwhile and “just knowing that we did it for a good cause, added to the satisfaction we all got from hosting this tournament,” Michelle says.
Tersia Burger, CEO at Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Alberton Bowls Club and the organizers, Michelle, Fran Windrass and the “fines captain”, Jenny Jones. “Not only are you helping us to continue with the much needed services we render, but you certainly made sure we learned the game of bowls,” she said at the prize-giving ceremony. Stepping Stone Hospice had their own team competing and finished in a respectable 11th position.
