“You are the glue that helps keep our society together,” said Thursday Club chairwoman Dianne Venter to the invited guests. “The Thursday Club has been in existence for 65 years and it remains our duty to keep going, so that we can help you continue with the work you do. We will help you again next year,” she pledged.
The Thursday Club was started on 28 February 1952, with the specific purpose to help charity organizations help others. One of their very first fund-raising projects was to raise 110 Pounds Sterling to buy a piano for the Elandsvallei Home for the Aged, which is still used today.
Stepping Stone CEO, Tersia Burger, extended a personal word of thanks to Dianne and The Thursday Club ladies, “for the tireless fundraising you do throughout the year to make such an outpouring of generosity possible.”
