Stepping Stone Hospice hosts second annual golf day

Thankfully the rain stayed away so the golfers could play their rounds under a bright blue sky, in the spirit of charity and generosity. The format of the day’s competition was Betterball Stableford and it was won by the pairing of Leon Deschamps and Frans van Tonder on 47 points.

Not only did they win an amazing prize of Water Filter Systems for their homes, donated by RO Water Systems, but Leon and Frans were also awarded the coveted ‘Vicky Bruce’ floating trophy, in honour of the late Vicky Bruce, by her mom and Stepping Stone CEO, Tersia Burger.

Said Stepping Stone Hospice Fundraising Manager and golf-day organiser, Marietjie Tame: “We are deeply grateful to all our players and sponsors for their participation. As a fundraiser in today’s economy, I am very much aware of how tough it is out there for the private sector, which makes me even more thankful for the continued support our hospice receives.”

Golfing pro, Brandon Pieters, challenged the players on the Par-3 15th hole to a ‘Beat the Pro’ competition, whilst several other valued sponsors entertained the golfers on various holes throughout the day.

Prize-giving dinner was a jovial affair with a combination of auctions, great entertainment and excellent camaraderie amongst those in attendance. Stepping Stone CEO, Tersia Burger, unveiled some of the organisation’s plans and aspirations for the coming year and thanked everyone for helping hospice as they continue to care for and support people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families.
