On the 13th of November, 11 mountain bikers rode for Stepping Stone Hospice when they partook in the mountain bike race, and on Sunday the 20th of November, 55 Stepping Stone Hospice cyclists rose to the occasion and participated in the road race!
Says Tersia Burger, CEO Stepping Stone Hospice, “we are absolutely over the moon. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to each and every cyclist, some who were there for the first time, others who were diagnosed with serious illnesses in the last year and still participated, and others who previously rode for other charities and decided to throw their weight behind our hospice this year. We thank all the sponsors who believed not only in our cyclists, but also in Stepping Stone Hospice and the work we do.”
All funds raised with this incredible achievement will be utilized to extend the existing In-Patient Unit in New Market Park with an additional 12 rooms. An adolescent unit will be added to enable Stepping Stone Hospice to provide terminally ill children with the specialized care currently provided for adults.
Tersia also wishes to extend a special thank you to Absa Marketing & Corporate Relations for sponsoring the beautiful cycling kits, Absa for the matchfunding initiative and Judy Joubert, project leader, for the incredible amount of hours she has poured into this project. “We simply couldn’t have achieved the success with this fundraiser without her work and enthusiasm.”
The cycling team will be invited to the laying of the foundation of the extension of the building at which time a group photo of the team in their cycling kit will be taken. This photo will be enlarged and displayed as a wall mural in the In-Patient Unit in honour of the 2016 Stepping Stone Hospice Charity Team.
