Brothers Jared Sadie (18) and Jon Daniel Sadie (16) from Alberante, wanted to honour their mom’s legacy with the Annual Vic’s Vaal Bike Dash. Vicky Bruce passed away two years ago at the age of 38 after years of suffering from Osteogenesis Imperfecta. In her last months of life, Vicky was cared for by hospice, and her dying wish was that other sufferers must be able to experience the kindness and dedication of a hospice care service.
This wish led to her mom, Tersia Burger and a group of determined Alberton ladies, establishing Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services in New Market Park, Alberton, the first of this kind of service in the Greater Alberton area.
The bikers completed the 110 km route from Meyersdal to the exclusive Parys Golf Estate on the banks of the Vaal River. ThinkBike supported the Run and send 15 marshalls to assist bikers on the route.
On arrival, bikers were treated to a sumptuous breakfast after which 100 balloons were released in Vicky’s honour.
“My mom felt very strong about Hospice, and this is our way of creating awareness for this organization, raising much needed funds so that they can continue the work they do and simply for us to honour her memory,” says Jared.
