MADD Day

The Barclays Africa MCCPA senior managementExCo tTeam for (Barclays Africa Marketing, Communications, Citizenship & Public Affairs (“MCCPA”)), spentd a day at Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services in New Market Park last week, painting a container that is now being used by Hospice staff as an admin office.

The purpose of a MADD project is not about blindly donating money to a good cause, it involves thinking pro-actively about what a project needs and then committing the necessary time, skills and financial support to that goal.

So says Mr Bobby Malabie, Group Executive: MCCPA Barclays Africa, who confidently transformed his team of eight from serious bankers to competent painters in a matter of hours. “We wanted to complete our MADD project in the month of July, also as part of honouring the late Nelson Mandela in his birthday month,” he says.

Barclays Africa was introduced to Stepping Stone Hospice through Judy Joubert, PA to Mr Malabie and volunteer at the Stepping Stone Hospice. “Painting the container is only the beginning of our involvement with this Hospice,” says Judy. A team of AbsaBSA employees have volunteered to cycle in the annual 94.7 Momentum Cycle Challenge in November this year to raise funds for Stepping Stone Hospice.

Tersia Burger, CEO at Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services, expressed her utmost gratitude to the Barclays team. “Our funds are truly limited and this has come as such a relief for our office and admin team,” she says.

The container was originally donated to Hospice by Grindrod in May this year. The electrical work and connections to the container was done free of charge by Tshepang Electrical while Blind Design in Alberton undertook to fit the blinds. “We sometimes just don’t have the words to thank all the wonderful people who help us help others,” Tersia says.
