67 blankets on Mandela Day
It took some serious cutting, sewing and knotting, but the Alberton Methodist Church Women’s Auxiliary group managed to reach their target and handed over 67 blessing blankets to Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services on Mandela Day.
Material for the blankets was donated by Beverley van Zyl who coordinated a collection effort for this between staff from Old Mutual and members of the Alberton Hockey Club. Cutting of the material, mostly done by Judy Allen, started some 3 weeks prior to Mandela day.
“It was such a blessed and humbling experience for us all,” says Sandra Human, president of the Alberton Women’s Auxiliary Group. The ladies also spend 67 minutes on Saturday July 12 baking muffins and packing ready –made soup for family members of Hospice patients.
“We know that our efforts went to a very worthy cause and would like to extend our gratitude to all who made this day a memorable occasion,” Sandra says.
