R300 000 raised Eco Estate Charity Gholf Day

A whopping R300 000! This is the amount raised for Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services during the Meyersdal  Eco Estate’s inaugural Charity Golf Day on Thursday February 27 at the Glenvista Country Club.

Residents of the Eco estate, the business fraternity and golfers alike dug deep into their pockets to ensure that this day will make a significant difference in the lives of hospice patients.

“I am overwhelmed by the support,” says Tersia Burger, COO of Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services in New Market Park. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think that this amount will be donated.”

Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services is the first of this kind of service in the Greater Alberton area. Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services receives no government funding and is totally reliant upon the generosity of the community, public sector and fundraising events.

“The need for our In Patient Unit has grown tremendously. We recently received a donation to add one more dignity room to the already three we have. This however means that we need additional nursing staff and the golf day funds now allow us to employ more nursing staff,” a delighted Tersia explains.

“Hospice offers its services to anyone who has had a diagnosis of a life limiting illness that cannot be cured, irrespective of their social, spiritual, financial or religious points of view or standing,” she said.

Rean Booysen, developer of the Eco Estate said that they felt that it was time to reach out to our immediate community where a need has been identified and hopefully make a difference.  He thanked all participants for their generosity and kindness shown towards this cause.

The golf day, with the main sponsor being Rawson Properties, is scheduled to become an annual event.
