Caring in Action
Teachers and learners at Marais Viljoen High School reached out to Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services in New Market Park, by nominating this organization as the beneficiary of their “Caring in Action” programme. Says teacher Elanza de Villiers, HOD Guidance, “some of us have been personally touched by the wonderful work this hospice does in our community and we wanted to do something for them, especially the staff and volunteers who always go the extra mile to not just support the patient, but the families as well.” The school raised funds and bought each staff member and volunteer at Stepping Stone Hospice a gift voucher “so that they can spoil themselves a little bit”, Elanza says. It is important, she says, that they too know they are not alone. Here with Elanza (left) are Sister Sheryl Newman, CEO of Hospice Tersia Burger and Sister Engela Rademeyer.
