Cycle Challenge 2018
Be part of a winning team!
Stepping Stone Hospice Would Like To Invite You To Ride For Us In This Year's 2018 Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge On Sunday, 18 November Or The Mountain Bike Challenge On 11 November…
Since taking part in our very first Cycle Challenge in 2014, our cycling team has consistently elevated Stepping Stone Hospice to new heights with their sheer dedication, commitment to our cause and unbelievable support and generosity of sponsorship.
Out of the 116 charities that took part in 2017, Stepping Stone Hospice falls second only to CHOC in the amount of funds raised, year on year, and after last year's challenge we can now add the coveted Blue Jersey to our list of accolades - awarded to the individual who raises the most money overall for their chosen charity. Our heartfelt congratulations and thanks to Jeff Hudson, who has cycled for our hospice since the very beginning, for achieving this honour. Also in the Top 25 Individual Fundraisers for 2017 is Sharene Dorning - well done!
Live on air!
Because of our continued presence and success over the years - and also now for earning the coveted Blue Jersey - the team from 947 rewarded us as a charity and acknowledged our cyclists' phenomenal efforts with an outside broadcast of The Xpress Drive with Greg & Lucky on Monday, 26 March at Stepping Stone Hospice's In-Patient Unit in New Market Park, Alberton. The pair were live on air from 4pm to 7pm under the lapa in our Garden of Remembrance and believe us when we say that we've been pinching ourselves ever since!
How to register

Step 2 - Enter and add Stepping Stone Hospice as your Charity/Bond
Why ride for our hospice?
- A more favourable start time (usually between 08:30 - 09:15). This is a big advantage for novice cyclists who don't have a seeding and would perhaps like to start a little earlier than the average novice.
- Help from more experienced riders. There are advanced cyclists willing to assist novice riders to prepare them for the Cycle Challenge.
- To help raise funds for us and create an awareness of what we do. SSH provides specialist palliative care to people experiencing the impact of life-limiting illness. We also assist the family/caregivers through this experience and bring solace to those grieving the death of loved one. Many of our cyclists ride, not only to help raise funds for our hospice, but also in loving memory of people close to them.
How your involvement can help us
As the purpose of the race is ultimately to raise funds, each cyclist that rides for us is requested to secure a minimum sponsorship of R1 500. The money we raise from the Cycle Challenge every year is invested in our Brick Fund, which was established to secure an extension of our services to the community. After exploring several extension opportunities and possibilities over the past years, which all ultimately fell short of meeting our needs in terms of either/and/or cost, infrastructure, location and other practicalities, progress has finally been made in that we have secured a donation of a 450sqm Park Home that will be renovated and added on to our existing In-Patient Unit, allowing for an additional 12 rooms, including an adolescent wing. As you can see from the pictures below, a generous injection of funds will be needed to restore it to its former glory and to accommodate our needs.
