They are not called the Steel Magnolias for nothing

Tersia Burger, chairperson of the Steering Committee, explains ; “those families who have lost a loved one due to a terminally ill disease such as cancer, will be encouraged to plant a rose bush in memory of that person in this garden. A small plaque will be attached to the bush and we will ask for a small donation to help us maintain the garden and keep it in good nick. “

Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services opened its doors in October last year. This is the first ever service of this kind in the Greater Alberton area. Traditionally Alberton community was serviced by Wits Hospice in Houghton and East Rand Hospice in Benoni.

Services now on offer at Stepping Stone Hospice include an in-patient unit which offers three dignity rooms with 24 hour visiting. Rooms are furnished with a reclining chair which allows for a family member to stay overnight.

The Home Based Care Services allow for palliative trained nursing sisters to visit patients in their own homes. The nursing sister co-ordinates the care and liaises with other hospice team members such as the doctor, social worker, community care workers, volunteer caregivers and other professionals who may be involved in treating the patient.

Kindly contact Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services on 087 887 0222 for any further info or if you wish to make a donation.  Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services receives NO government funding. They are totally reliant upon the generosity of the community, public sector, fundraising, bequests, donations in lieu of flowers, patient accounts and the sale of secondhand clothes and goods.
