Since opening their doors in October 2013, Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services in New Market Park, Alberton, cared for 753 patients with life-limiting illnesses. Under their loving care and with the assistance of a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, sisters, caregivers, social workers and counsellors, 645 of these patients , an average of 20 per month, died a dignified and in most cases, symptom-free death.
It is a fact, says Tersia Burger CEO of Stepping Stone Hospice, that almost each and every one of us have been affected in some way or another, by another person suffering from a life-limiting illness. “We base our work and our actions as a hospice on the words of Dame Cicely Saunders, nurse, physician and writer, and founder of hospice movement – that you matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.”
Stepping Stone is to launch their “Help Us Build, Brick by Brick” project at the end of June 2016, a project to raise funds for their planned extension to the existing In-Patient Unit. The extension has been necessitated by the ever-increasing demand for hospice care, care that is also needed more and more amongst young people.
The goal is to raise R3.5 million, of which R1.6 million has already been raised. Partnering with Stepping Stone is the Alberton Record, SCS Architects and Coenbuild and they appeal to all businesses and individuals to participate, whether through a financial contribution or assistance with building materials. Your contribution will be acknowledged via publicity in the Alberton Record and the 4m x 3m signboard facing the Newmarket Mall intersection.
For more information on how you can help and how you and your business can be recognized for your contribution, kindly contact Marietjie Tame on 082 337 5713 or drop her a mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
Excited to launch the “Help us Build, Brick by Brick” project, are chairperson of Stepping Stone Hospice, Barbara Campbell-Ker and CEO, Tersia Burger.
