Standing ovation at hospice’s 'Oppi Plaas' event

More than 200 people gathered on the stoep of the iconic Meyer House on the Meyer Farm on Friday, 1 September, for an intimate evening with the super-talented Deon van der Merwe and Ruhan du Toit from the popular band ‘Touch of Class’ – all in aid of Stepping Stone Hospice.

Guests tucked into boerie rolls and warming bowls of curry and rice as they listened to the band play hits from the likes of Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers and Elvis Presley, to homegrown favourites such as Theuns Jordaan. But it was Ruhan du Toit’s renditions of Pavarotti’s 'Nessun Dorma' and 'O Sole Mio' that had everyone on their feet in awe.

“We owed the band’s involvement to our Hospice Patron, Corlia Booysen, who took this event under her wing and managed to secure the sought-after duo for the night,” explains Stepping Stone Hospice’s Fundraising Manager, Marietjie Tame. “We can’t thank Corlia, our staff and volunteers enough for all their hard work. The evening was a great success.”

“I was especially excited that we could host this event in such a beautiful and historic setting,” explains Stepping Stone CEO, Tersia Burger. “What a night it turned out to be – ‘Touch of Class’ certainly lived up to their name. We are so grateful to the Meyer family for allowing us to host this remarkable evening, literally in their backyard, and would like to thank all those who attended for supporting our hospice.”

Courageous Conversations

About Courageous Conversations

Working at a hospice exposes us to every kind of human emotion and experience. What we have learnt is that we all have a story. We all experience heartbreak, heartache, uncertainty and difficult times in our lives. Courageous Conversations was borne out of this knowledge.
