Social club welcomes Stepping Stone

Tears flowed freely as Stepping Stone Hospice CEO ,Tersia Burger, addressed the ladies of Café la Plume’s Wednesday ‘Social Club’ in Glenanda on 17 May. Tersia spoke about what she’s learnt about loss and grief after the passing of her daughter Vicky in 2013, who was the inspiration behind Stepping Stone Hospice. “At the beginning it feels like a tsunami, with wave after wave of utter despair hitting you,” said Tersia, adding that “over time the waters begin to calm a little and then, right out of the blue, something triggers a memory and a giant wave appears out of nowhere and hits you again.”

Tersia went on to tell the ladies the story of Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services – how the organization that started in a room in her house has grown and evolved into what it is today. She also highlighted the many needs the hospice has, as well as the initiatives that have been planned this year to raise help funds, including a new charity shop, set to open its doors in the Alberton Mall on 1 June 2017 (across from Springbok Pharmacy). “We need second-hand goods to stock our shop,” she said, “so please consider us when you next clear out your cupboards or garage. We welcome all sorts, from books and clothes to furniture, appliances and more.”
